I just imagine some contractor frantically rummaging through his van, muttering “Clamps. I need more  c-clamps!”.

what are they doing with all the clamps?  at first I thought the curved beam thing was going to be structural but there is a wall under there.

They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, but sometimes insanity is just doing the same thing over and over. Like setting clamps.

Eh, he’s fine. Seems like he’s well-adjusted.

Those look old too so he’s done this before.

So much glue.

I see evidence of skill and history here...and a smattering of MacGyver.

My guess is this is how you build a custom curved stair rail. I’ve never built one before but it doesn’t seem that out of reality.

...and they wondered why the curved stair is 500% more expensive than the non-curved stair.

Not sure why but if you squint at the photos of your stair[way to heaven] case, it looks like the inside of a piano.

Bingo. Looks like about a half dozen boards glued and curved, then clamped.

Banister rail forming?

My house had a curved staircase from the 50s. I live in fear that the dogs are going to break the banister one day.

What are the wood blocks up against the wall for?

Same thing as the outside clamps.

That’s how you make a curved stair railing. They use several this pieces, a shitload of glue, and all of the clamps.

How many clamps?

A LL. OF. THEM.

ah ok. I saw a stair where they used multiple layers of plywood to make a structural curved stringer kinda like whats in that photo so thats what I thought was going on but the wall below threw me off
